For QuickBooks Desktop practices
Desktop practices built something rare: one flat license, every client’s books, a workflow tuned over decades. Intuit is retiring that deal — Desktop 2023 support already ended in May 2026, and Desktop 2024, the last non-Enterprise version ever, loses support September 30, 2027. The two doors Intuit offers next — Enterprise or QuickBooks Online — both cost multiples more. Before you pick one under deadline pressure, here is the honest math, and a third option.
Effectively, yes. Intuit stopped selling new Pro, Premier, and Mac subscriptions in September 2024, and support ends version by version: Desktop 2023 — including the Accountant editions — lost support on May 31, 2026, which froze payroll tax tables and ended bank feeds for practices still on it. Desktop 2024 is the last non-Enterprise version Intuit will ever release, and its support ends September 30, 2027. After that, the only Desktop left is Enterprise.
Enterprise starts around $1,700 to $2,700 per year for a single user depending on tier, before seats and hosting. QuickBooks Online is priced per client company — after the August 2026 increase, Essentials lists at $85 per month and Plus at $140. A bookkeeper with 20 clients on Plus faces roughly $2,800 a month at list price, against the single flat license Desktop practices run on today.
No, and you should not. The honest way to evaluate any new system is one or two clients in parallel with your existing process: run both for a month, compare every disagreement, and see which side was right. Nalo is built for exactly that evaluation — it reads a bank feed directly, with no QuickBooks Online subscription required. For Desktop books, you send a standard Transaction Detail export and we load it with you during the evaluation month; self-serve import is in development.
Nalo shows its work. Categorizations are grounded in that client’s own history, anything uncertain goes to a review queue instead of the books, and auto-booking is bounded to small pattern-backed expenses — $200 or less, never income. A month-close check verifies the underlying data and says plainly what it could and could not prove. Pricing is flat: $100 a month for a business, $100 per client per month for firms, with no per-feature tolls.
Honest scope matters more in bookkeeping than anywhere: Nalo today runs cash-basis, bank-feed books — categorization, review, deterministic checks, receipts, month-close verification, and accountant exports. Full balance sheet support is in active development. If your practice needs it on day one, we would rather tell you now than after a migration.
We are onboarding a small number of firms as design partners — practices that want to run Nalo in parallel on a client or two and judge the disagreements themselves. No migration, no QuickBooks Online subscription, no trust asked for up front.
